Our Impact:
5000+ school kits 75 Schools Two Countries (Liberia & Gambia).
Safe journey to School:
We are working with 60 schools in Liberia, and 15 schools in the Gambia teaching school-aged kids safe crossings and road safety. We have established road safety clubs in all 75 schools and they are teaching safe-crossings to students daily. We train elected leaderships of the school clubs on a routine basis to increase their knowledge and make them active ambassadors of our road safety campaigns. We also work with the schools’ authorities to paint crosswalks for the safety of the kids. Over 5000 kids have been taught on safe-crossing in the 75 schools across the two countries (Liberia and The Gambia), and we have built crosswalks in the schools to provide students with safe crossing access.
Advocacy:
For over a decade we have been a firmed leading voice for road safety policies and laws across Liberia and the Gambia. We organize monthly press conferences and street protests to demand government’s actions for road safety’s laws and for the enforcement of existing laws. We also organize public stakeholders’ dialogue amongst responsible authorities including civil society organizations and the media to share cross-stakeholders’ perspectives about road safety, good lessons from other countries, national challenges and ways we can chart efforts and nourish synergies to achieve the global goal of reducing road crashes by 50% by 2023.
Helmet Use:
We are leading community-based campaigns for effective helmet use policies and practices, engaging policymakers, motorcyclists and pedestrians. We have conducted assessment and awareness amongst 5000 motorcycle riders in the five (5) biggest counties of Liberia; Montserrado, Bong, Margibi, Grand Bassa, and Nimba to identify key policy advocacy issues, and behavioral change campaign programs. The findings of our baseline studies have been presented to policymakers and responsible stakeholders in the transport and road industries for actions. Our findings have influenced the government of Liberia to enforce effective helmet use for all riders.
World Day of Remembrance:
We organize series of activities every year on the 3rd Sunday of November to commemorate the United Nations Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. Each year we organize an event in honor of a prominent person or key people who have died from crashes in the preceding year. In 2018, we honored the sad death of Liberian musician Quincy L. Borrows who died from overspeeding accident on the 3rd of March.
Liberia Road Impact Award (LINRIA):
Every year we organize awards ceremony for 12 outstanding individuals and institutions with evident impact on the road and the mobility industry. We setup a panel of independent judges with diverse expertise and experience in the fields. Recipients of our awards in 2018-2021 include; Total Liberia, Orange Liberia, GTBank Liberia, GIZ Liberia, Nobel Liberia, EU Liberia, Flash Vehicles, Mr. O’neal Roberts, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Fred Gaye, Ms. Yana Tumakuva, Andy Mcclouthlin, World Bank Liberia, UNMIL Radio. In 2018, Liberia’s Minister of Health, Dr. Whilhemina Jallah presented the awards to recipients at Corina Hotel in Monrovia. The ceremony was held in 2019 at the US embassy in Monrovia. The awards ceremony has been a thrust of motivating road safety and mobility impact since its inception in Liberia and Gambia.
Radio Awareness: Media engagement has been the core of our advocacy approaches in Road safety in Liberia and The Gambia. We have drawn the attention of national governments, citizens, local and international partners, and CSOs to the needless burdens of road casualties.
